THE FITNESS FORMULA

Chapter 2: The Hope to Habit Mindset

Last week I ran a giveaway on Facebook that offered a “6 Week – Home Workout Training Plan” to anyone who followed the specific instructions I had set by which to obtain one. Within the first 24 hours I had pinged out 110 emails, and within 7 days I had sent 208 emails in total. What a response!

But do I expect the 208 people who received the plan to finish it, or maybe even start it? Truth being told - I’m not so sure...

Many people have the idea and the initial 'hope' to want to achieve their goals, but then fall short in execution of said goals. Factors affecting this can be numerous, most common of which I’ve seen and heard are:

  1. Lack of knowledge
  2. No motivation
  3. No time
  4. Procrastination - “I’ll start next week...”

.....blah, blah, blah.. the list goes on and negativity can easily creep in!

The process of turning that “hope” into a “habit” comes from a mental toughness you as an individual need to develop.  For meaningful change, successful people have clear vision, an intent and a strategy of how to get there. With these pieces together you can develop the plan, the habits and the mindset to succeed.

Having SMART (specific, measureable, achievable, realistic and time-based) goals is key, yes - BUT having a positive support network is also vital. This network may consist of a coach, a personal trainer, your family and friends, fitness/well-being apps (etc), and they all play a crucial part in educating and supporting you on your journey. This is not only true for health and fitness journeys, but can indeed be incorporated into any aspect of life.

Changing that 'Hope' to a 'Habit' is something you need to invest in. This week, I wrote the below quote on the wall of the gym. Personally I find it very relevant on your fitness journey and in life in general...

“You can have results or excuses, but not both.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger
